Concerts:
Please see events calendar for upcoming concert appearances.

Past concert appearances have included the Brighton Festival, Healing Sounds Festivals, World Sacred Music Festivals and concerts in hospitals. Engagements to raise funds for charities and causes have incorporated, amongst others: Save the Children, Amnesty International, reMEmber, the Tsunami Appeal and the Triangle Healing Trust. I am often requested to perform for conferences. Please go to Special Groups for examples.

When I am performing I can never feel lonely. How lucky I am to connect with  people through the wonderful medium of music; friends I know and friends I’m about to meet. Concert performances include a repertoire of my own compositions, traditional sacred music and folk songs together with modern compositions that inspire me. In recent years I rarely think of my concert appearances as ‘performance’, more as an act of sharing.

Space of Sound was a three year series of monthly free lunch-time concerts of relaxing music in the atmospheric chapel of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. These concerts were opportunities for patients, staff and the local community to take time out away from the wards or place of work, where everyone could unwind and de-stress in an informal place of rest and ease; an escape from concern or pain. People were invited to drop in for however long they could manage, bring their lunch, doze for a while… These sessions were particularly special to me and I would like to thank Rev. Peter Wells, senior hospital chaplain, and Rev. Steven Underdown, hospital chaplain, for their enormous enthusiasm and support with this meaningful project.

For information on sound and song as therapy in hospitals please go to hospital.

“Dear Lou, I happened upon your lunchtime concert today at the Hospital. It was so wonderful that I just wanted to thank you. Your voice is magnificent and although I am about to start dialysis next week, and haven't felt particularly unwell, I now feel uplifted and calm!! Many many thanks.” Danie, hospital patient

“I found your words and music very soothing and comforting at such a painful time. Your choice of songs reminded me that there is always hope to be felt in dark places and wisdom to be gained from accepting things that cannot be changed. Thank you for reaching me.” Fiona C., Hospital employee

“My 25 minutes wasn’t enough but work calls. Thank you so much – it was truly gorgeous to hear your voice. I’ll take it back with me. You really sang as if you had harmony in your heart.” Nurse

‘Lou’s heritage of beautiful and evocative songs in Hebrew and Yiddish express a whole gamut of emotions, resonating Jewish tradition and lifting the heart. Lou’s performances are always deeply spiritual and imbued with healing intent.’ Brighton Festival of World Sacred Music.
